Have you succeeded in generating a website that gets over a thousand hits per day? If so, how?

i work for a 2 location retailer and am interested in getting an e-commerce site up.
basically, what i’d like to do is approach our owner about taking over that part of the business as a subsidiary or something to that effect.

I am interested in finding a user friendly web hosting company that provides their own web building ware (online or download). There are thousands of products, so need unlimited pages/products/storage.
